A blender is a simple device with a blade, a jar, and a handful of buttons to start things moving. When used correctly, it can make smoothies, puree soups, and even mix nut butter. However, if you use it wrong, you will wind up with a sludge-like smoothie or, even worse, a blender that is stuck and simply cannot perform the job. Things go south quickly when you don't know the first thing about blenders which is why we've created a handy list of tips so you can start meal prepping your smoothies!
A useful tip to remember when using a blender is the sequence in which the components are added. That implies you should ALWAYS begin with liquid and make sure it covers the blades (typically a cup of juice). As a general guideline, work your way from lightest to heavy.

After a few seconds of pulsing or running the blender, rinse the blending jar and lid with clean water. It's ideal for cleaning the blender as soon as you finish using it before the food has a chance to dry.
Operating without the lid is obviously a significant hazard; even if you only have a tiny quantity in the blending jar, you risk producing a giant mess. It's also an excellent idea to softly put your hand on the lid as you begin blending, especially if you have a blender with a jar that rests on the base; this will prevent the blender from "walking" off the counter.
